Information about Würzburg

 

Würzburg, about 6 km away, with its 130,000 inhabitants, the capital of Lower Franconia and offers numerous shops, restaurants, cafes, beer gardens, cinema and a lively nightlife.

But here we find especially many historic buildings are worth a visit and be a real reason for a city break in Würzburg.

 

The Marienberg fortress perched powerful over the city and the Main valley, right next to it is the Käppele, the pilgrimage church "Visitation", on the Nikolausberg.

The former Prince Bishop's Residenz in Würzburg is a powerful and splendid castle, which since 1981 is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

 

In the historic city of Würzburg is a building worth seeing lined up on the next. From the 180 m long Old Main Bridge of old cranes which Grafeneckart am Rathaus, the Red Building, the baroque four tube wells, the St. Mary's Chapel, the Kiliansdom follows and many more.

Those wishing to take a guided tour in Würzburg, can do so through the lighted streets with a guide, by tram or at night with the night watchman.

 

Some of the main events are the Würzburger Weindorf and the largest African festival in Europe "Africa Festival" (both the end of May), the vain & outdoors Music Festival in June, the Mozart Festival with concerts in June / July, the Kiliani folk festival in July, Mainfranken exhibition beginning October and the Christmas market in December.

Würzburg is also the starting point of the "Franconian Bocksbeutel street". This runs in the historic triangle between Spessart, Rhön and Steigerwald. Wine bars and traditional wine festivals await visitors who had traveled to the Bocksbeutel street.
